Reduce Your Regrets

I ended up scrolling Facebook today and went down a rabbit hole of regrets people had. It was one of those pages where strangers write anonymous notes and leave them in a jar, and someone reads them out loud later.

What I noticed from many of the notes was that there were a lot about love and relationships. Some relationships were intimate, family-based, friendships, etc. What I noticed is that a lot of people regretted not saying how they felt about someone, saying something mean to their child or partner, making a mistake like kissing a friend's partner, and so many other things, like keeping a secret from a friend.

What really got me thinking was how much time had gone by between people not talking, keeping the secret, and not saying how they truly felt, etc. All of this made me think of how we live our lives and how, in some ways, if we were more courageous, honest, and vulnerable, we would be intentional with our words and say what we mean and say how we feel. We would be careful with what we say to our kids and family that we claim to love.

I think, additionally, we would do something about all of it so that we don’t have regrets. Why not tell the person you love them, even if they reject you or don't love you back? Why not say sorry for the mean thing you said, even if it was meant as a joke, and tell the person they are handsome or beautiful just as they are?

Sometimes I think it is the human curse to live in the well of regrets and think that we can’t do anything about it, which I don't think is true. We are capable of more than we think. We should push each other to be more, especially in these things.
