Notes About Overthinking

I recently listened to "The Overthinker's Guide to Making Decisions," by Joseph Nguyen. Below are the notes I took and the ideas that resonated with me as I listened to the audiobook version.

  1. A Decision made from fear is always the wrong decision. - Tony Robbins

  2. The root for over thinking is fear.

  3. Where your attention goes energy flows. Where energy flows things grow.

  4. To overcome fear don't feed it. When we focus on what we don't want we feed it until it overwhelms the decision process and we become reactive. Shift where we focus. Look where you want to go.

  5. Our brain shows us more of what we choose to believe - confirmation bias. If we think today sucks it will look for evidence that today sucks. If we think today was a great day it will filter for evidence that today was a great day.

  6. Instead of focusing on the fear for a decision focus on the possibilities. Focus on what you desire and you will drift toward it. Make decisions based on what you want to feel not on what you are afraid to experience. Attention is the artichect of your life.

  7. Will this decision contract who you are or expand who you are becoming?

  8. Sometimes you make the right decision or you make a decision right?

  9. Maybe we'll see - outcomes are rarely what we expect. All events are inherently neutral. When you are not acting from harm there is no inherently wrong decision.

  10. Make choices from the inside out.

  11. Your peace does not need to sacrificed for someone else's comfort. Their reaction is not your responsibility.

  12. What kind of life do I want to create with this choice?
